The sap is flowing!

Spring is coming! Students in Golden Lake Elementary’s Nature Club, an after-school program for students in kindergarten and grade one, learned how maple syrup is made. Students hiked by Rice Creek to find maple trees . . . and they discovered a lot! Kiddos got a turn trying out the drill (in a dead log), and two taps into the maple…the sap was flowing. Students enjoyed a taste of the sap straight from the tree and had fun climbing on a gigantic Silver Maple. Students also learned about the science behind the sap flow and tracked the temperatures from home, noting the impact of freezing and thawing.
